Where The Heck Are My Internal Organs, Chocolate Fudge Layer Cake, and other mysteries.

So apparently this is roughly what my stage of pregnancy looks like (25-26 weeks)…

(And just for the record I think it’s a little ridiculous… I was bigger than that at like 20 weeks, but if I hear “oh my goodness you’re huge” one more time… I swear… And while you’ve got the record out, add this too… “HOLY CRAP THERE’S A BABY IN THERE… I MEAN ME… OH MY WORD!)

And I’m sitting here, wondering… where the heck are all my internal organs?! I mean, this question has been on my mind the last little while. Ol’ Doc & dear internet keep telling me that the baby is growing bigger and bigger, my lovely friends and family can’t stop exclaiming how ginormously huge I look (wait ’til I’m 9 months… that’ll be a show…), and I just can’t help but think – if that baby is like totally taking up all the room in my ‘abdominal area’ then, well, what about like my intestines and stuff?

It’s a mystery.

In other baby news, last night dear ol’ hubby was out delighting himself with the company of his dad and the palate-pleasing delicacies of fine cuisine while I stayed home and slaved away like a chained prisoner (ok, his dad took him out for dinner at the pickle barrel while I stayed home studying for the class I willingly and excitedly decided to sign up for, but that’s beside the point… where was I?…)

Oh yes. So like the amazingly wonderful hubby that he is, he called me when they were done eating and offered to bring me home a treat – anything off the menu. He read off a couple options he thought I’d like, and in the home stretch it came down to the onion rings vs the chocolate fudge layer cake. Now, if you know me at ALL… you know I’d normally choose onion rings/fries/anything salty and greasy over chocolate and sweets ANY day of the week. But when baby spoke up and politely asked for the chocolate fudge layer cake, I did what any decent mother would do, and obliged.

Score one for my tastebuds, and one for my mad parenting skills. Cha-ching.

In My 26th Week

That’s how they count it – as soon as you hit a full 25 weeks, you’re then in your 26th week, and so on.  It’s great – makes me feel like I’m that much closer to D-Day!

I just wanted to give a little update on how the bun is cooking.  According to dear internet, “growing baby now measures around 14.02 inches (35.6cm) and weighs about  1.68 pounds (760g)”… “In the second half of your pregnancy you will be growing nearly 0.39inches (1cm) each week“… “Your baby now has some sort of sleeping pattern. You may find that at certain times of the day he/she is more active than other times. All his/her five senses will now be fully developed”.

I’m only a couple weeks away from my third trimester, and according to my dear encouraging internet, this is what I have to look forward to any second now… ” As your uterus, placenta and baby get bigger, so do you. Back pain, headaches, leg cramps and pressure in your pelvis may be becoming more frequent now”.

Yay for babies! Yay for getting closer and closer to D-Day so I can meet the little monkey who’s putting me through all this fun and frivolity!

By prettifying my blog.  I like this new look, and I think I’ll actually keep it. Except I might update the picture one of these days, since that one is from more than a month ago. (Yikes!).

25 weeks today… 15 to go…

Actually there are only 13 weeks until the baby is considered full-term.  13 WEEKS!!! Holy macaroni! We got the baby room all painted last week.  The Coker’s, Carson’s, and Laura all came over to help paint while I sat on my butt in the living room trying not to breathe paint fumes.  It was quite the crazy day.  We’ve now got our dresser/change table – the one we picked out from our registry. Chris’s Granddad decided to buy us a baby gift, and he had it delivered to our house! We were (pleasantly) very surprised! It’s gorgeous and lovely and perfect. We also picked up the crib from someone Serena knows (they gave it to us for free!), and it’s beautiful!

The room is slowly coming together, and I can’t wait to see it finished.  Each step closer makes it more and more real to me.

I’m getting bigger and bigger as the days go on.  It’s amazing to me how I just keep growing!  I went to my latest doctor’s appointment last Friday,  and he said that next time I come (June 20) I have to do a glucose screening test for gestational diabetes, and get an RH shot, since my blood is Rh negative (I have A-neg blood).  Yay for needles.  (Can you sense my excitement? *cough*).  A small price to pay for my baby though!

Hmmm… I don’t really know what else to say. I’m just watching to days go by quickly… hoping I’ll be all ready by the time September gets here, and that I can accomplish certain goals in my job before I leave.  After that, I have absolutely no idea what my life will look like. I have no clue what it’s like. It’s like I landed a huge job with absolutely no experience, no training, and no way to prepare.  I have ideas of what I want it to be like, but who knows what will actually happen! I guess I’ll find out soon enough :)

23 Weeks Today!

Oh my. This pregnancy is going by faster than a… uh… I can’t think of a good analogy, so let’s just it’s going by super fast. I can’t believe there are only 17 weeks left!

Life has been good lately.  True to all the experts’ predictions, I have enjoyed my second trimester very much. I pretty much enjoyed the first one too, except for being falling-asleep-during-supper exhausted the whole time.  My latest “symptom” is swollen ankles. They are gigantic, and it’s kinda creepy the way I press on them and it leaves a big indent for like 10 minutes.  Apparently I’m retaining water. Which means eat less salt and elevate your feet, being sure to go for walks (which seems to make it worse). Easier said than done.

Last night I started my very first class of my graduate studies.  Haha! I say “graduate studies” like I have some grand plan or something. Really, I’m just taking it as an “occasional student” and am not registered in any program officially (yet).  I’d love to work towards a Masters some day, but who knows… no pressure. I’m basically just taking it because I happen to love the prof who’s teaching it, and I know it’s a required class for most of the M.Div’s at Tyndale.  Also, I love the topic! “Gospel, Church and Culture: Preparing Missional Leaders for the 21st Century”.  I think I should be able to make disciples in my own culture before I go to another one (Africa) to do the same. This class (I hope) will help equip me in that!

My mom thinks I’m a little nuts – taking this class while 6 months pregnant. It’s every single night, Monday – Friday, 6:30-9:30pm, for 2 weeks (with a week break in the middle). I also work full-time during the days. OK, so maybe I am a little crazy, but when did I ever claim not to be? ha!

In baby news (since that’s who this blog is supposed to be about, and here I am blabbering on about myself) – my beautiful baby is over the a foot long now, and weighs over a pound! Amazing! I’ve heard that 23 weeks is the earliest a baby born prematurely has ever survived. I definitely don’t want to give birth anytime soon, but it’s amazing to think that already this little baby is basically a fully formed person!

I’ve also been feeling the kicks and flutters for the last 3 weeks or so, and Chris has been feeling them for about a week now. It’s becoming sort of a nightly thing – just before we turn out the light, as we’re lying in bed, he puts his hand on my belly for a little Daddy-baby bonding time. We can also SEE the baby move, as my stomach jumps and pokes in strange and amazing ways! I laughed out loud the first time I saw it!

Still trusting in God…
